From the Settings Window
The first and easiest way to access the advanced options in Windows 10 is to use the new Settings app. To start. click on the Notifications icon appearing on the taskbar and then click on the option “All Settings.” Alternatively, you can also use the Windows 10 keyboard shortcut “Win + I” to open the settings.
Once the Settings window has been opened, click on the option “Update and Security.” This is where you will be able to manage important settings like updates, security, recovery, activation, etc.
In this window select the “Recovery” option appearing on the left pane, and then click on the “Restart Now” button appearing under the “Advanced Startup” section.
As soon as you click on the button, you will be asked to choose an option. Select the option “Troubleshoot.”
The above action will open the Troubleshoot section. Here, select the option “Advanced Options.”
As you can see, the Advanced Options screen provides you with options like reset, recover, and repair.
Using the Restart Button
Alternatively, you can also use the regular restart button to access the advanced options. To do that, press “Win + X” to open the power user menu. Here, navigate to “Shutdown or sign out,” and click on the “Restart” option while holding down the shift key on your keyboard.
If you don’t have access to your user account, then you can access the advanced options directly from the login screen. Just click on the power icon on the lock screen, and then click on the Restart option while holding down the shift key on your keyboard.
By Inserting DVD or USB Drive
If for some reason your Windows system is not booting, then you can access the advanced options menu by inserting the Windows installation DVD or USB drive. After inserting the installation drive, boot into it and proceed to the installation screen. Here, click on the “Next” button to continue.
In this window simply ignore the Install Now button, and click on the link “Repair your computer” appearing in the bottom-left corner.
Now, just like in the first method, select the option “Troubleshoot.”

As you can see from the below image, when you are accessing the advanced options using the installation media, you will not be presented with the option “Startup Settings” which is helpful to change the Windows startup behavior.
