2019 saw many great games that came out, from smaller indie titles to AAA titans. We also saw some surprise hits like Apex Legends and some anticipated games Anthem fall on their face. So without further ado, here are the best games of 2019:

Best Games of 2019

Apex Legends

As stated above, Apex Legends was released without any marketing whatsoever. The game practically blew up overnight. It offered something new and exciting and was much more unique in its approach when compared to its contemporaries like PUBG or Fortnite. The ping system was particularly helpful, as it allowed players to not even use their mic for communicating. Developer Respawn has continued to support the game by adding new characters, maps and modes, making sure Apex Legends becomes one of the best games of 2019.

Metro: Exodus

Metro Exodus is the latest game in the Metro franchise which was one of the best games to utilize NVIDIA’s raytracing feature. While I haven’t personally completed the previous Metro games, but Exodus can be easily enjoyed by someone who hasn’t played the previous installments. The game emulates realism unlike any other on this list, where you’ll be at the mercy of mutated humans and creatures all the time.

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds, developed by Obsidian Ent., is basically what Fallout should aspire to be. While the marketing didn’t really hype it up as much, the game itself was one of the best of 2019. It’s ripe with many choices that affect the narrative, coming out to be one of the best RPGs of the year. The only problem that I had with the game was its inferior shooting mechanics when compared to other shooters that came out last year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remake

Call of Duty made its triumphant return last year, with a reimagining of the classic Modern  Warfare franchise. The game had a gripping story with classic characters like Captain Price making a return. The multiplayer was also fast-paced fun. And with multiple updates, like the upcoming season 2, CoD is showing us that maybe the franchise can be trusted.

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding was shrouded in mystery for most of its marketing. Not even the actors know how to explain anything about the story. However, when the game came out, it was met with much fanfare. Most of it came from just Kojima’s involvement, which spawned its own controversy, but the game itself was just fine. Since the game doesn’t tell you much and has unconventional controls, we’ve written multiple guides explaining the same. It certainly proved to be one of the most interesting games of 2019 on PS4, and it’s coming to PC too!

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium was one of the most innovative RPGs that came out last year. With an expansive story rich with player agency at its center, it catapulted to the top of indie charts on Steam. The game looks gorgeous, and the only potential downside is that you might be bored if you’re not into text-based RPG games. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of good voice acting here. But since the game is so expansive, a lot of places only show blobs of text. However, the storytelling itself is pretty good.

Control

Control was a big surprise last year. The game was developed by Remedy Entertainment and utilized environmental destruction in one of the best ways possible. If you’ve got a high-end PC with an NVIDIA RTX GPU, you’ll really be able to enjoy Control’s outstanding visuals with raytracing. We gave the game a glowing review here at Gamertweak, cementing it as one of the most surprising and in turn, best games of 2019.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

From Software’s latest title was, as expected, a tough game to master. As is the case with every Soulsborne game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice punishes you hard for all the mistakes you make. However, after your umpteenth attempt at beating that boss, there comes a time when everything clicks. That’s why you should start by upgrading the necessary skills at the start of the game. Despite being a tough game to beat, it got recognized as the best game of 2019 by the Game Awards last year.

So that’s it. The best games of 2019, at least according to us. If you want to read more about the upcoming games of 2020, click here.
